Fashion FWD >> Disruption through Design is a celebration of fabulous frocks, beautiful couture, and the voices of society’s disruptors.
The exhibition has been designed in-house with a swathe of local and international collaborators: selected iD Emerging Designer finalists since inception and from around the world; Dunedin’s top designers; and selected items from Otago Museum’s vast textile collection, we fuse the lines between historical and current innovative narratives. This fashion is brazen, chic and defiant.
Couture is, at its best, a creative fist raised and railing against convention. These garments disrupt through design. They crash through stale tradition and bristle against prejudice, intent on forging a better humanity. They tell our stories, exult in self-expression, and delight in shattering old ideas that restrict, restrain, and reduce us; refusing to submit to an imperfect world.
It is an agent of change; our beliefs, our identity, and our hopes for the shape of the world described in tulle, and silk, and wool.
The exhibition is supported by Dunedin’s top designers, Margarita Robertson of NOM*d, Tanya Carlson, of CARLSON, and Sara Munro, of Company of Strangers, Donna Tulloch of Mild Red and Charmaine Reveley; iD Dunedin Fashion; and the organization that nurtures design talent, Otago Polytech.

The exhibition is also the backbone of a programme of pop up fashion events, workshops, talks from fashionistas and internationally recognised designers.
